Looking for a solution myself

Do you have pain in your jaw or ear?

Complaints about the jaw or ear are common.

They can manifest as jaw pain, a clicking jaw, ear pain, tinnitus, or headaches.

At Oramove, we help you better understand where your complaints may be coming from and what you can do about it.

Do you recognize any of these complaints?

Not sure? Pick the most recognizable option for you.

 Jaw pain

Jaw complaints can manifest in various ways.

Many people notice, for example:

  • pain around the jaw, cheek, or ear

  • a click or snap in the jaw when opening or eating

  • tension or fatigue in the jaw muscles

  • difficulty opening the mouth wide

  • headaches around the temples or above the eyebrows

  • a tense feeling in the face or jaws

  • more complaints in the morning after getting up (when clenching or grinding)

  • more pain after a stressful day

These complaints are often related to tension in the muscles or the jaw joint.

Ear pain

Some ear complaints are not only related to the ear itself but also to tension around the jaw and neck.

You may experience, for example:

  • ear pain without ear infection

  • a pressure sensation in the ear

  • a feeling as if the ear is “full”

  • tinnitus (ringing in the ears) such as buzzing, hissing, or humming

  • a click, flutter or vibrating sensation in the ear

  • symptoms that change when you

    • move your jaw

    • move your neck

    • clench your teeth

  • ear complaints that occur together with jaw tension or headaches

Rehabilitation after surgery

Have you recently had surgery on your jaw, for example after a:

  • jaw rinse (arthrocentesis)

  • arthroscopy of the jaw joint

  • jaw correction or bimaxillary osteotomy

After surgery, patients may temporarily notice:

  • stiffness of the jaw

  • limited mouth opening

  • tension around the jaw joint

  • fatigue when speaking or eating

  • uncertainty when moving the jaw again

A calm and controlled increase in movement can help to improve the function of the jaw again.
